depends on the bowel disease and depends on how the person reacts to and manages their bowel disease.
Sorry to sound so lame, but basically if you have a bowel disease, let's say cancer of the small intestine, then your life expectancy would likely be shortened.
If you have something like celiac disease and you follow a strict gluten free diet, then there is virtually no change to your life expectancy due to the bowel disease and not including any other factors e.g. smoking, obesity, other diseases, etc.

I do have Crohn's disease for more than 4 years. Since I was diagnosed my life changed dramatically. The need to be close to a bathroom 24/7 and the almost daily abdominal pain are a big issue in my life. Right now that I'm typing I'm experiencing a flare up and it is awful. I try to manage it by quitting smoking, quitting alcohol and be careful of what I eat. Having a bowel disease is not the end of the world but it and uncomfortable situation. You have to be strong in order to overcome the stress factors and the social isolation. It should never put you down because as I said before there are too many worst diseases out there. So if you do experience a bowel disease keep in mind that you should never surrender from life... Life is always there for us and we still can taste it even with that small problem we may experience...

Yeah im also experiencing horrible a horrible bowel disease . It sucks at first i cried and prayed every single day. My parents had to hold me and try to cheer me up. I envy all those people who can go to the washroom. Im only 15 and it sucks! I wish there was a cure but their isn't. Sometimes i'm in so much pain i get really depressed, I can't even tell my best friends about it cause they might think its nasty, so sometimes if I had a really bad night the night before and I go to school the next day its all
fake. So maybe depression can shorten life, not sure, but I absolutely HATE being sick. But now its just a way of life, and I just accept it.
