If you’ve ever been on prednisone or other steroids for a chronic illness I am sure you will relate and probably get a good laugh out of this.
After almost Two Hundred (200) Hospitalizations, Twenty (20) Surgeries and 25+ years of Learning How to Live, Love and Laugh with Crohn’s Disease, I’m finally an Expert at something — at 48 years of age! They say to “Write about what You Know” — I’ve done that — ie, by Authoring the Book, “Confessions of a Professional Hospital Patient,” which I began writing simply to Help other people similarly challenged by Chronic Illness - both IN and OUT of the Hospital. Thankfully, my Humorous and Painfully Candid Perspective has Far exceeded those Goals such that my Book has been Critically Acclaimed as Inspirational and as the most Accurate Account of Living (and Thriving) with Chronic Illness. In fact, I wrote the Book in 2001 and it appears to be timeless as the current Health Care Reform Debate in 2011 has sparked renewed Interest in my Book such that not a day goes by without me receiving a heart-warming email about how me sharing my experiences has made someone else’s life better. The feeling of somehow having the ability with just mere words to make such a positive impact on another’s life is Life-Affirming and quite humbling. So, despite all the hassles, pain, expenses and downsides to being challenged every day by Crohn’s Disease, I’d change NOTHING about my Life. THAT is the Upside to Chronic Illness.
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affect all different kinds of people all over the world. After posting this I realized I should have picked a more uplifting song. This one is a bit of a downer. I do not own this song. Permission for each photo was given to me by it’s owner.
WANTED: Crohn’s End (WCE) is a documentary about people with digestive conditions who use alternatives when nothing else works. They have listened to their gut and are taking a proactive approach to improving their condition. WCE tells patient stories of adversity and triumph while using alternative medicine, such as Helminthic Therapy, diet, supplements like Colloidal Silver and THC Oil. Some are controversial with family and doctors, while others are clearly illegal, but should they be? When the pharmaceutical industry spends twice as much on marketing and advertising than it does on research and development for cures, how can we the patients trust that they have our health in their best interests? We can’t and that’s why we have to take control of our own health and ensure we are made aware of and are able to choose from all available treatments. The healthcare debate has only just begun.
